Summary: Before booking a car, it is important that you state the purpose for which you are making a purchase. This is because cars are available in variants serving different purposes like adventure, sports, regular use and so on. If you are looking for a car that would go well with your regular wear and tear then take a look at some budget and family-friendly cars like Datsun Go and Maruti Alto 800. Let us draw a comparison between the two to help you make a worthy purchase.

Nissan’s Datsun Go is a budget-friendly car that does not compromise on its dimensions and appeal in all its seven variants. Though it has a basic hatchback, yet it does not go down the scale in its styling quotient. It is undoubtedly a fancy car with pretty amiable features that would go well on the road for practical use on a daily basis. Its ex-showroom price starts at Rs. 3.99 lakhs which can go up to Rs. 6.45 lakhs.

Maruti Suzuki has indeed upgraded its previous Alto 800 models giving it an up-to-date appeal. This new model is launched in six variants which are all very economical and ideal for consistent use. You can get Alto 800 in six colours – red, silver, blue, grey, white and green. This fuel-efficient car is listed for Rs. 2.94 lakhs as its ex-showroom price. However, the price could rise to Rs. 4.36 lakhs. Also, the car is available in six variants such as STD, STD (O), LXI, LXI (O), VXI and VXI+.

Features at the interiors and exteriors

If you take a look at the exteriors of Datsun Go, you’ll be pleased to see that the car is not a miniature variant of any model. It is well-groomed with a trapezoidal radiator grille and a set of swept-back halogen headlamps. Moreover, features like spinal support front connected seats, integrated headrests in both front and rear, full door armrest, AC vents and three-spoke steering wheels only cater to enrich its spacious cabin. Thus, Datsun Go is a complete package promising comfy driving and that too in style.

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki’s Alto 800 has undergone a massive transformation in its appearance. Features like a new grille, stretched headlamps, newly designed bumper with tweaked fenders is added. Interiors of the new model are also modified with equipment like two-din audio system having Bluetooth connectivity, AC vents, the anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, driver side airbag, reverse parking sensors and a speed alert sensor.

Specifications and Performance

Datsun Go models run on petrol only. Its 1.2 litres, three-cylinder, 12 valve DOHC petrol engine is placed within the engine hood. Its in-line cylinder generates 68 PS of power at 5000 RPM and 104 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM. Also, there is a five-speed manual transmission-equipped to the petrol engine. Mileage of this petrol motor is 20.6 km per litre.

Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 can run on both petrol as well as CNG. It is known to comprise a manual transmission. Moreover, Alto 800 promises a mileage of 24.7 to 31.4 km per litre. It also has a 796-cc engine that generates a maximum power of 40 to 47 bhp along with 60 to 69 Nm of torque.

Even though Datsun Go is known for its affordability, power, performance and spaciousness, yet there are some features in which the car lags. These include undersized tyres, bad insulation, an austere cabin styling and frail after-sales network.

Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 has some drawbacks as well. It lacks a touchscreen infotainment system and space for rear-seat passengers. Moreover, better riding and handling experience was expected from its makers.

Both Datsun Go and Maruti Alto 800 are budget-friendly cars for economic buyers. If you wish for spacious cabin then Datsun Go is an ideal setup. However, if considered safety equipment then you could go for the all-new and improvised Maruti Alto 800.
