The electric scooter now gets an updated battery pack

  • The Avera Reterosa now comes with a single battery pack instead of two.
  • It has a claimed top speed of 90kmph and a claimed range of 120km to 140km.
  • The electric scooter costs Rs 1.19 lakh on-road.

The Avera Retrosa was showcased at Auto Expo 2020. The electric scooter now gets a new optimised battery pack. The Avera Retrosa electric scooter costs Rs 1,19,400 (on-road). It does not qualify for FAME II subsidies despite meeting speed and range requirements since it isn't 50 per cent localised and does not have more than 25 dealerships.

The Avera Retrosa currently has nine dealerships in Andhra Pradesh. Plans are afoot to sell the Retrosa in the southern states of Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala by May this year. Avera plans to expand to the northern states by the third quarter of this year. Avera is also looking at increasing localisation of components once sales volumes are up. So, we can expect a more affordable Retrosa in the future.

For 2020, the Retrosa has been updated with a new battery pack. Instead of the previous 72V and 18AH twin battery packs, the electric scooter now gets a single optimised 72V and 36AH battery pack. Avera makes its battery pack inhouse and claims that it delivers a range between 120km and 140km. While the battery pack is fixed, Avera does offer swappable battery packs for business (like ride sharing) customers. The battery has a charge time of 3 to 4 hours. It can be charged in 1 to 2 hours via a fast charger.

In terms of features, the Retrosa gets all-LED lighting and a circular digital instrument console. Power comes from a mid-mounted 3kW BLDC electric motor. The claimed top speed is 90kmph. Avera also claims the scooter can carry a load of 180kg as well as climb a gradient of 30 degrees. It gets five rider modes as well as a walk/reverse mode for ease of parking.
