The Yamaha XSR155 is the smallest motorcycle in the company’s retro-naked series. Based on the same platform as the R15 v3, the XSR155 offers a blend of old-school charm and modern performance. The motorcycle has smitten a lot of Indian enthusiasts as well. If it tickled your fancy, you would surely love the sound of the XSR300.
Unlike the smaller XSR155, the XSR300 is still far from reality. In fact, the images here are renders of what the bike could possibly look like. The artist has managed to combine the classy looks of the XSR family with the underpinnings of the current global-spec YZF-R3. Hence, you can spot a flat bench seat, round headlamp and tail light, high-raised bars, and punched holes on several body panels, all of which are in tune with the XSR design language.
If Yamaha does decide to put the XSR300 into production, we do not expect to see much change in terms of engine specs or components used from the R3, just like it did with the XSR155 and the R15 v3. As you can see in the images, the gold USD fork has been lifted off the new R3, which is yet to be brought to India.
In India, the Yamaha R3 has been pulled off the shelves as it is not BS6 compliant. Yamaha cannot introduce the new version in India until the 321cc parallel-twin motor is updated to Euro 5/BS6 emission norms. The Euro 4/BS4 version produces 42PS and 29.6Nm. We expect the figures to remain more or less the same in the BS6 era. The earliest we could see the R3 back on our roads is early-2021
