The Delhi government on Wednesday requested the High Court to allow it to purchase 500 standard-floor buses that can ply in the city's outskirts where the roads are poor. The court reserved its order on the plea.

The government told a bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V. Kameswar Rao that the standard-floor buses, proposed to be procured, were disabled-friendly.

These buses have hydraulic lifts, which will help the differently-abled people easily board and deboard.

The proposed purchase has been opposed by one Nipun Malhotra, a differently-abled person, who has contended that standard-floor buses were not disabled-friendly, as they were mounted on a truck chassis, and their height made it difficult for such people to board the vehicle.

In his plea, he has sought directions to the Delhi government to make the city's roads, government offices, and public transport friendly to the differently-abled people.
